Jazmine Sullivan

JazmineJazmine was a Philadelphia native is a native of Philadelphia, and was raised in the city. Her mother Pam was a back-up singer with Philadelphia International Records. In the year she turned 5 older, her father was offered job as curator for City's Historic Strawberry Mansion in the Strawberry Mansion section, and her family relocated to the historical landmark. She is a 2005 graduate from the Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts in which she was singing music major. Sullivan started singing as a contralto with the kids' choir, before joining just a few years later, in the adult choir. Sullivan was not exposed to secular music. She recalls that she was eleven when someone asked her to sing solos at church. She wasn't quite ready to go. "Then when McDonald's had a competition for youngsters in the major cities and I was offered the chance to perform 'Accept what God Wills' on Showtime at the Apollo and the audience responded really well". When she was 13 years old, she performed along alongside Stevie Wonder for his grandson's birthday. Sullivan, at age 15 began her career with Jive Records. At the age of 15 She was signed by Jive Records. She made an whole album at Jive Records, however it was not made available for release. Sullivan was eventually dismissed from the record label. The singer had a great working partnership to Missy Elliott. Elliott produced some of her tracks such as "Backstabbers" that was produced by Timbaland.
